BILTMORE HERE WE COME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so excited to announce that we will be starting a "Foodie Market" at Biltmore's new "Union" shops on November 11th!!!
We will be there with great local produce and incredible local food vendors....
every 2nd and 4th Sunday from 12-4.

We have so many incredible vendors coming! PLUS, our market is being sponsored by "Porter Barn Wood"! The greatest re-claimed and old wood supplier in AZ, I might ad! They supplied the wood for the new shops and have great things that you can get your hands on as well!!! (www.porterbarnwood.com)

The actual new shops ("Union @ Biltmore Fashion Park") opens Thursday November 8th at 6 o'clock for their grand opening event. They have the neatest concept and ideas in this place. Reclaimed wood covers the walls and the whole set up is like something you would find in New York.
You have GOT to check this place out.
PLUS...Momma's Organic Market will be there Sunday 11/11 and every 2nd and 4th Sunday through April so come see us! :) I cannot wait to open this market! SEE YOU THERE!!!!!!!!!

Market Season is HERE!!!

Our farmer's market in Peoria is now EVERY Saturday from now until April!!
(9a-2p at Park West just west of the 101 on Northern) 9744 W Northern Ave, Peoria, 85345)

I love that we will be able to get our fresh produce and other groceries from local vendors each week! It's been a long time coming! We have wanted to be every weekend and this year it finally worked out. We are starting out the season with 3 produce vendors (and Tonopah Rob will be joining us sometime in mid to late October).
Our 3 INCREDIBLE produce vendors at the market are....
Fresh and Local TJ farms, Horny Toad Farms and Hot House Naturals!

We are so lucky to have them and looking forward to each week that they can bring out their wonderful, PESTICIDE FREE, better than organic, local produce!
We need your help in spreading the word! People need to know that they can find us every week! We have found that signage and advertising is great...but it's YOU who gets the most people to come shop in the community at the market. Word of mouth is the best way of advertising! Without the support of this wonderful community...farmer's markets and local businesses wouldn't make it. It is because of you that we are here and we are so thankful that you let us bring a market to Peoria and other areas.
THANK YOU for your support and for your desire to shop fresh and local! I hope to be seeing you tomorrow and don't forget to stop by the info booth and say hello!!

SEASON 5 STARTS NEXT SATURDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok...summer is officially over for us and the market season is upon us! FINALLY...time for all those fresh, local foods!
We will have our Grand Opening market of the season on our typical 3rd Saturday next weekend on the 15th, but....we will be there EVERY Saturday after that all the way through to April! I couldn't be more excited about bringing the market to you every week. The vendors have SO many good products that we have all wanted every week and now...you can come and get them!
We will have fresh, pesticide free (better than organic) produce, fresh eggs, natural meats, local honeys, salsa's, jams, jellies, syrups, fresh breads, hummus, baked goods, jerky and more. There will also be wonderful hot foods for a bfast or lunch at the market. Family Picnics are encouraged!! BYOB (bring your own blanket!) :) LOL
There will also be a ton of local artisans, hand made items, great local services, fun kids activities, pet adoptions, free book exchange table (bring your old books), live music and WONDERFUL people in the community coming together to support eachother! Doesn't get any better than that folks! :)
Speaking of support...thank you for yours! Without support of the community, we wouldn't be here and the vendors we love wouldn't thrive. It is because of YOU that community markets are here! We are blessed to be the outlet for you!
We have A LOT of cool things going on this season! Check out our website and like us on Facebook for the updates. You can sign up for our email reminders too! We will have an afterschool market in Peoria this year, so keep checking in for those dates. PLUS...we have 2 markets in Phx this season and some wonderful Peoria markets on Sundays as well! You do not want to miss an opportunity to spend the time outdoors with your family over the next 8 months! I really hope to see you soon and if you spread the word about the markets and bring a friend with you to our event...you can stop by the info booth for a gift!

ORGANIC CHERRIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, this is the 3rd year I have been lucky enough to get a delivery of fresh, organic (NO pesticide), dark, sweet, lapine cherries from a friend's family farm in Montana. They are THE best cherries I have ever eaten. I didn't think I liked cherries until I ate these! They actually TASTE like fruit. Not like the bland things they call cherries at the store :) I am hooked and I get 2-3 20lb boxes each year for my family. I pit them and freeze them so I can use them all year because I do NOT buy other cherries from the store anymore. It is a waste. I use them for making cherry/apple sauce for the kids, raw and non-raw cherry cobbler, black forest cake, marinades and glaze, jam, I ganna try fruit butter this year, pies, and the thing I use them most for is to blend up in my green smoothies.
Organic cherries are SO expensive at Whole foods and you can get these for only $3/lb this year in a 20 lb case. If you only wanna get a few lbs, you can do that for $3.50/lb. It's a great deal! I ordered a few extra cases this year so that I could offer them to more people. CALL OR TEXT ME TODAY (8-7-12) if you want some!!! 602.703.7154. Pick up is at my home off 67th and Thunderbird in Peoria.
Here are a few recipes for you people out there that got some of the cherries.

Recipe:
Raw Cherry Crisp with Chia and Dates
2 pounds (about 8 cups) cherries, pitted and quartered
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
3 tablespoons orange juice, divided
1 cup pitted dates
3/4 cup slivered almonds
1/3 cup chia seeds
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
Raw Cherry Crisp with Chia and Dates
Serves 8
Sweet cherries get a flavorful topping made from dates, almonds and nutritious chia seeds. This is a superb fresh dessert, yet is healthful enough to serve for snacks.
Ingredients
2 pounds (about 8 cups) cherries, pitted and quartered 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract 3 tablespoons orange juice, divided 1 cup pitted dates 3/4 cup slivered almonds 1/3 cup chia seeds 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
Method
Toss cherries with vanilla and 2 tablespoons of the orange juice. Spoon into an 8-inch-square dish and smooth the top. In a food processor, combine dates, almonds, chia seeds and cinnamon and process until coarsely ground. Pour in remaining 1 tablespoon orange juice and pulse until combined. Spoon chia mixture evenly over the top of the cherries and serve, or cover and refrigerate up to 3 days.

Recipe:
Brown Rice Salad with Cherries and Chicken
3/4 cup brown basmati rice, rinsed
1 1/2 teaspoons fine sea salt, divided
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
1 shallot, finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 pound cherries, pitted and quartered
1 pound prepared grilled or roasted chicken breast, diced (about 3 1/2 cups)
2 cucumbers, peeled and diced
1/2 small red onion, thinly sliced
1/2 cup pecan halves, toasted and chopped
1/2 cup finely sliced basil leaves
Serves 6
This salad is full of the great summer flavors of cherries, basil and grilled chicken. Buying prepared grilled or roasted chicken (frozen or fresh) will make it a snap to put together. You can even substitute thawed frozen brown rice instead of cooking the basmati rice — you'll need about 2 1/4 cups.
Ingredients
3/4 cup brown basmati rice, rinsed 1 1/2 teaspoons fine sea salt, divided 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar 1 shallot, finely chopped 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper 1 pound cherries, pitted and quartered 1 pound prepared grilled or roasted chicken breast, diced (about 3 1/2 cups) 2 cucumbers, peeled and diced 1/2 small red onion, thinly sliced 1/2 cup pecan halves, toasted and chopped 1/2 cup finely sliced basil leaves
Method
Bring 2 1/2 cups water to a boil in a small saucepan and stir in rice and 3/4 teaspoon of the salt. Bring back to a boil, stir again, cover and simmer until the rice is just tender but not mushy, about 40 minutes (not all the water will be absorbed). Drain rice and rinse briefly under cold water. Drain again. Meanwhile, in a large bowl, whisk together oil, vinegar, shallot, pepper and remaining 3/4 teaspoon salt. Add cherries, chicken, cucumbers and onion and toss. Add rice and pecans and toss again. Serve at room temperature garnished with basil.

Recipe:
Cherry Skillet Jam
1 pound fresh cherries, pitted and halved
3 tablespoons lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon freshly grated lemon zest
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cornstarch
Cherry Skillet Jam
Makes about 1 cup
This quick jam is easy to make and uses much less sugar than traditional recipes. Keep in mind that in most jams, sugar acts as a preservative so this lower-sugar variation won't keep as long as most other jams, even in your fridge, but it's so tasty it won't last long anyway!
Ingredients
1 pound fresh cherries, pitted and halved 3 tablespoons lemon juice 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated lemon zest 1/4 cup sugar 1 teaspoon cornstarch
Method
In a large skillet, bring cherries, lemon juice, zest and 2 tablespoons water to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce heat to medium and simmer about 8 minutes or until cherries are very soft. Add sugar and continue to cook, stirring frequently until mixture has thickened and most liquid has evaporated, 3 to 5 minutes longer. Stir cornstarch into 1 tablespoon water and stir into skillet. Boil 1 minute, stirring. Let mixture cool, then transfer to a container and refrigerate up to 5 days.

Recipe:
Scallops with Cherry-Tarragon Sauce
1 1/2 pounds wild-caught sea scallops
1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
2 shallots, chopped
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
1/2 pound cherries (about 2 cups), pitted and quartered
1 tablespoon chopped tarragon
Scallops with Cherry-Tarragon Sauce
Serves 4 to 6
The combination of rich sea scallops with sweet and tangy cherries is exceptionally satisfying. Scallops are at their best and most tender with short cooking at very high heat; make sure to have the scallops as dry as possible and your pan so hot that the oil is shimmering--but not smoking--before you add the scallops.
Ingredients
1 1/2 pounds wild-caught sea scallops 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil 2 shallots, chopped 2 tablespoons rice vinegar 1/2 pound cherries (about 2 cups), pitted and quartered 1 tablespoon chopped tarragon
Method
Pat scallops dry with paper towels. Sprinkle on both sides with salt and pepper. Heat a large, heavy skillet over high heat until very hot. Add oil and heat until very hot. Add half the scallops and sear, turning once, until lightly browned, 2 to 3 minutes per side. Transfer scallops to a platter and cook remaining scallops; cover and keep warm. Lower heat to medium and add shallots to the skillet. Cook, stirring, until softened, about 2 minutes. Add vinegar and cherries. Cover skillet and cook, stirring occasionally, until cherries are softened, 4 to 5 minutes. Stir in tarragon, then pour cherry sauce over scallops.

Recipe:
Cherry Ambrosia
1 angel food cake or small plain pound cake, cut into 1-inch slices
Canola oil cooking spray
1 1/2 pounds (about 6 cups) cherries, pitted and halved
2 bananas, peeled and thinly sliced
1 1/2 cups flaked unsweetened coconut
3 tablespoons orange juice, more to taste
Cherry Ambrosia
Serves 10 to 12
This is an excellent dessert to serve to a crowd. For maximum efficiency, grill the cake over coals you used earlier to cook your dinner. Angel food cake is a classic for ambrosia salad; grilled pound cake is richer but just as heavenly.
Ingredients
1 angel food cake or small plain pound cake, cut into 1-inch slices Canola oil cooking spray 1 1/2 pounds (about 6 cups) cherries, pitted and halved 2 bananas, peeled and thinly sliced 1 1/2 cups flaked unsweetened coconut 3 tablespoons orange juice, more to taste
Method
Preheat a grill for medium heat cooking. Very lightly oil the cake slices with cooking spray, then grill until browned and marked, 1 to 2 minutes per side. Place on a cutting board and cut into 1-inch cubes. In a very large bowl, combine cherries, bananas, coconut and orange juice and toss to coat. Add cake cubes and toss just until coated. Add a few more tablespoons orange juice to further moisten the cake if desired.

CSA 6.25.12

HEY everyone!!!!! Hope you are having a wonderful week!
This is the last week of the pre paid CSA, but I am so excited for July! (you can drop your checks off at the coffee shop when you pick up your order tomorrow and feel free to let other people know that we are starting a new cycle! The more the merrier!) With Jesus and Tanya taking a well deserved break for July...our new farmer for this month will be Stella with Horny Toad Farm! She is a mom of 4 kids, hard working farmer and she has wonderful, pesticide free produce!!!! A lot of the AZ summer produce is the same since certain things grow in certain months here, but sometimes they plant different types of the same items. I can't wait to see what she has in store for us! She is happy to have the opportunity to deliver the CSA orders to us and I hope you will all be able to re-join for July and help me in supporting her wonderful farm. She just recently was able to get a lot more land as well and she has been doing a lot at her farm. She has had fun farm events going on that I will let you know about if any come up soon! Check out her new website at www.hornytoadfarm.com
With that said...here is the info for THIS week! (don't forget to let me know today if you wanted buffalo from the last emails I sent out! YUM!)

Hand and Body Lotion ingredients – water, apricot kernel oil, emulsifying wax, essential oils (lavender or sweet orange)4oz. pump bottle - $5.00, 8oz. pump bottle - $9.00
Lip Balm ingredients – organic olive oil, coconut oil, beeswax, organic cocoa butter, lemon essential oil, vitamin E$2.50 per tubeWe won't have very many eggs this week. Maybe 10 dozen. I am trying to round up more, so bear with me :) I am hoping to call the other contacts I have and get more. We have been going through like 25 to 30 dozen each week!

Again...THANK YOU so much for being part of this CSA. I hope it has been a good experiance for you and that I can continue to be able to get you the produce and other products that you like to have. I am working on getting more honey since that is a great item to have, but it is hard to coordinate it for some reason right now. Most of the honey people are on the east side of town.
Anyway...I really do appreciate you all supporting the local businesses and coming to get your fresh produce this week. I hope to hear from you all in July as well and if there are any issues on dates in July...let me know. There are people who would like to split the month since some will be out of town on some weeks. If you are able to get the bags later in the month...let me know and we can have you for the last 3 or 4 weeks if need be. Let me know!
Talk to you soon and have a great rest of your day!

CSA 6.11.12

Hello CSA-ers…
(Pick ups are at the “Coffee, Tea and Me” shop in the Park West mall off the 101 and Northern-just west of the 101 on Northern Ave. The shop is next to the Sees Candy shop on the main spine road of the mall next to the water fountains, fire pits and seating area. You can pick up any time between NOON and 8pm.The produce will not be ready for pick up until noon. THANK YOU so much for joining me to support our wonderful farmers Jesus and his wife Tanya.
We hope that you are all finding the produce to be a wonderful addition to your grocery list each week and that you are pleased with the fresh items and the clean way it is farmed.
I will strive to keep it going as long as you all would like to have it. Some of you have asked about continuing the CSA pick up even when the markets start back up in the fall and I would LOVE to set that up and see it happen. That is a very helpful thing for the farmer! KNOWING they will make a certain sale each week/cycle is a cushion that helps them through the weather changes and sale differences at any of their markets. I would be keeping it on Mondays at the same location and time. The benefits to this is still the convenient weekday pick up with large time opening for pick ups and also the fact that the produce is discounted since it is pre paid. You can pick your own things at the markets, but if you can’t make it to markets on the weekends…this is a great option. Let me know if this is something you would like to do. IT will also be VERY easy for me to get a lot of other products on any given week! I would need a minimum of 25 pple in the CSA on each cycle (and I don’t think that would be any issue), but I wanna put the idea out there for response even though it is not for a few months. If you do not want pre arranged bags when fall comes around, you may want to think about signing up for "Tonopah Rob's" CSA and pick up at the markets. He does his CSAs very different and they are closing down for summer, but you can get in on some great deals for the fall season. He is scheduled to be at my weekend markets and has a wonderful program. With him, you pay a certain amount up front and it is like a "tab". You go to the markets and pick up what you want and it comes off your pre paid amount. You can skip weeks, so to any of the markets to pick up, etc. here is his website (make sure to tell him that "Momma's Organic Market" sent you!) http://www.tonopahrob.com/
We will have fresh eggs again for pick up ($3.50/doz). You can reserve eggs by letting me know and we will set aside for you. Otherwise, it is first come, first serve.

I do not have honey or other items this week, but am always trying to get ahold of them. I will let you know next week if I am able to offer anything extra.

Here is what you can expect in your box tomorrow!
****Jesus has also offered to sell MORE bags of the roasted chilis for $3/bag if you want more of those. Just let me know ASAP so that I can tell him how much to roast in the morning.**** 1-Potatoes (a red and yukon mix)
2-Summer Squash mix
3-Butternut OR Acorn squash
4-Carrots
5-Tomatoes
6- Green Beans
7-ROASTED Green Chilis!! :)
8-Watermelon
9- SURPRISE ITEM

June 4th CSA pick up!

Hello fellow CSA-ers…
As usual…pick ups are at the “Coffee, Tea and Me” shop in the Park West mall off the 101 and Northern (just west of the 101 on Northern Ave)
9744 W Northern Ave
Peoria, 85345
The shop is next to the Sees Candy shop on the main spine road of the mall next to the water fountains, fire pits and seating area.
You can pick up any time between NOON and 8pm. The produce will not be ready for pick up until noon. (they drop off around 1130 and we get them all brought in and in the walk in cooler. We can’t get you your box until after we have gotten everything unloaded and ready)

THANK YOU, again, for joining me to support our wonderful farmers Jesus and his wife Tanya. They have been working for Crooked Sky Farms for about 10 years now and are currently harvesting and planting on their own farm this year. They are working at both farms! He plants, harvests and sells the wonderful pesticide free produce from both Crooked Sky Farm and his new farm “Fresh and Local TJ farms”.

We are in the last 4 week stretch of this pre paid cycle and we will be doing another 5 week cycle for all of the Mondays in July after this.
Jesus and Tanya will be taking a (well deserved) vacation in July, so we will be partnering with another great local farm just for the month of July to take over for the time Jesus and Tanya are gone.
We hope that you are all finding the produce to be a wonderful addition to your grocery list each week and that you are pleased with the fresh items and the clean way it is farmed.

I do strive to keep it going as long as you all would like. Some of you have asked about continuing the CSA pick up even when the markets start back up in the fall and I would LOVE to set that up and see it happen. That is a very helpful thing for the farmer! KNOWING he will make a certain sale each week/cycle is a cushion that helps them through the weather changes and sale differences at any of their markets.

**We would LOVE to start a "Recipe Exchange" at the pick up. Print up a few of your fav recipes with the items in the box for the week and leave a few copies for give and take. (Thank our lovely coffee shop gal "Lora" for this wonderful idea!)

ALSO...we will have fresh eggs again for pick up ($3.50/doz). You can reserve eggs by letting me know and we will set aside for you. Otherwise, it is first come, first serve.

HONEY!!!! I visited one of my other farmers in Tonopah this weekend and grabbed some RAW mixed desert honey. It is truly and positively raw with NO heat to spin it what-so-ever. The bees pollinate a lot of different desert flowers, so it is probly the BEST honey for allergies. IF you take a tbsp a day (not heated up past 105 degrees in teas or oatmeal) it is said to significantly help allergies to AZ plants. This is $9 for the jar and I only have 4. So it will be at the coffee shop for purchase. If you want me to set it aside for you. Let me know. (first come, first serve) J I will try to get more honey at least one more time in June. I will probly have fruit butter at that same time. I will keep you posted.

Here is what you can expect in your box tomorrow! If you didn’t get a chance to play around with the Nopalitosc(cactus)…now is a great chance! And please share your recipes! Lora (our awesome coffee shop gal, put hers in a CSA veggies stew and said it was wonderful. Just an idea for something to use it for.
****Jesus has also offered to sell MORE bags of the roasted chilis for $3/bag if you want more of those. Just let me know ASAP so that I can tell him how much to roast in the morning.****

1-Sweet potatoes
2-Summer Squash mix
3- Bell Peppers
4-Carrots
5-GREEN tomatoes (who's up for some fried green tomatoes??!!) :)
6-Nopaletos (Cactus)
7-ROASTED Green Chilis!! :)
8-Melon (either cantalope or watermelon...not sure on morning harvest yet)
9- SURPRISE ITEM
10- SURPRISE ITEM
(surprise item MAY be corn...eggplant...green beans...not sure yet. It's all about the anticipation!) :)

If you have anything that you are growing in your backyard garden…feel free to bring some to share. I have some rosemary that I can share, but I will put it in a basket and let pple take what they would like J Right now, some people may have mint, basil, jalapenos, onions, anna apples, figs, apricots, peaches…I should have grapes soon :)

Recipe suggestions:
Do any of you have left over summer squash that you are not sure what to do with aside from the regular grilled slices?? I had some fun in the kitchen yesterday with some pinterest recipes I found (see pictures) :). Here are the recipe links J These work with the yellow squash, Mexican grey squash, zucchini and the 8 ball squash we have gotten. I like to use my spiralizer to make raw “noodles” and pour sauce on top for a cold, raw vegan pasta when I want a light meal. You can top it with a homemade tomato sauce or a fresh pesto.
Feel free to print up a few of your fav recipes so that we can do a recipe exchange!!! :)

Here is the raw cows milk info! I asked her to send me pics and info to answer some of your questions...
Cows are milked 2xs a day. Udders are washed prior to and udder cream put on before and after milking. Automatic machine is used. It is cleaned and sterilized before and after each milking. Milk is placed in freezer for 8-10 hours for cool down then placed in fridge for mo more than 24 hours. If not sold in 24 hours, it is used to feed calves and pigs.
Cows are fed premium alfalfa hay, "free choice" burmuda grass and recieve 40 lbs of corn per day for the 2. They have calves that share the milk and nurse whenever they want.
They recieve a natural salt and mineral supplement ("free choice") along with bread and produce for treats.

The milk is only allowed to be sold in AZ as "not for human consumption". I just recieved the milk today, so please let me know asap if you want some. I want to make sure it all gets sold since it is so fresh. I have 10 gallons.

I am supposed to be picking up honey tonight, but have not heard from the person as to where or when, so if I do have honey, I will have it out at the coffee shop tomorrow on a shelf. Also...we will have eggs there tomorrow for $3.50 a doz. If you have extra egg cartons left over from the last 2 weeks OR just extras around the house...please bring them for recyle :)

-tomatillos
-mixes summer squash (8 ball, yellow, zuchinni, mexican grey)
-red potatoes

Recipe suggestion:
Get your Greens and cool down with a green smoothie popsicle :)! Use your collard greens (a small handful) and add in a banana (fresh or frozen). Then pick 2 other fruits to toss in there as well such as...strawberries and pineapple (which are on sale this week too (97cent pineapples at sprouts, 88cent strawberries at bashas)!.
Use those potatoes, beets, yellow squash, zuchinni, garlic and onions for a yummy side dish. Dice the CSA veggies and mice the garlic. Add some season salt, garlic salt or pepper for your taste and enjoy with some grass fed steaks or natural chicken breasts! :) I can smell the summer bbq's by the pool already :)
Green chili and tomatillo salsa!!! chop your tomatillos, onions, green chilis,  some cilantro and miced garlic. Add some salt and voila...fresh yummy salsa with no pesticides right at your fingertips :)
